BLACK HISTORY IS AMERICAN HISTORY
THIS IS OUR INAUGURAL SPECIAL BLACK HISTORY EDITION.
NO MATTER IF IT'S THE GOOD OR THE BAD - BLACK HISTORY IS AMERICAN HISTORY. AND DESPITE THE BLEMISHES OF THE PAST, THE FUTURE REMAIN HOPEFUL.
Still they are part of the City's history.
No matter if it's the good or the bad - Black History is American History.
And despite the blemishes of the past, the future remains hopeful.
African Americans remain a political force on the City Council, the school board, and activists like Ishmael Trone, Brandon Lamar and Skip Hickambottom continue to do work across the City on complex issues like local hiring.
And the City now has Eugene Harris, a Black police chief.
Respect to all of the above for the work they do in the community. But still we hear things that are concerning.
One of those things that continues to come up from Black employees at City Hall is lack of promotions of qualified Black employees.
More on that soon.
As we honor Black History, we say to everyone celebrate your culture and honor people of all creeds and color.
Because in the end tolerance must be part of American History.
