Kidspace Celebrates
Black History Month
Kidspace Children's Museum is going to mark festive Black History happenings with a triple header of events from Saturday, February 17 through Monday, February 19.
The museum is a proud sponsor of the 42nd Annual City of Pasadena Black History Month Parade and Festival, which celebrates the life and legacy of Jackie Robinson, which will brighten Pasadena on February 17.
The festival includes a family art program designed to illustrate Robinson's legacy of activism for freedom and civil rights. The museum will also host community art and music programs to honor Robinson's legacy through art and music, as well as to advocate for a better, kinder world in his memory.
The community art project, presented in collaboration with Transformative Arts, will feature artist April Banks creating a large-scale k kidspace art piece representing the commitment to continue Robinson's activism for freedom and civil rights. Musician and ethnomusicologist Ray Briggs, Ph.D., will share the songs from Robinson's time and the cultural significance of the "Black National Anthem" during the musical programs. These events are free with Kidspace admission.
The museum has a history of celebrating Black History Month, as evidenced by its past events and programs. For example, the museum has previously collaborated with Transformative Arts to present the LINEAGE Community Art Project, which celebrates Black culture and expresses Black life as layered.
In addition to the events, the museum has also hosted other programs and initiatives to engage children and families, such as the Kidspace Book Club, family storytime, and other in-person programs.
