THE CELEBRATION OF BLACK HISTORY CONTINUES
THIS IS OUR SECOND
BLACK HISTORY EDITION.
As we celebrate Black History Month, we once again look at where we are headed and where we have been.
And like last year, we remain optimistic.
Over the past year, two iconic Civil Rights leaders were honored by the City, John J. Kennedy and Edna Griffin.
Also, Black Americans continue to make a difference in the City this year.
Chief Eugene Harris continues to lead the police department, and Councilmembers Tyron Hampton, Felicia Williams, and Justin Jones continue to represent their constituents.
Meanwhile, other local names are staking out their claims in the political space.
Phlunté Riddle is seeking Holden's assembly seat. Holden, who terms out in 2024, is challenging Kathryn Barger, and Brandon Lamar is chasing the District 2 seat.
At City Hall, Brenda Harvey-Williams was appointed Assistant City Manager last year. Harvey-Williams began her career with the City in 1987.
Respect to all of them for the work they do.
Pasadena is more than just the Rose Parade. and the Rose Bowl Game. The City's history extends from famous formerAfrican-American residents Jackie Robinson to Barack Obama.
And let's not forget Pasadena was the first school district west of the Mississippi to integrate under a court order.
History has been made here.
American History.
After all, Black History is American History.
